Paddle the Missouri – Introduction to Kayaking on the Missouri River

In partnership with the Triple ‘A’ Paddlers, Bismarck Yakkers, Missouri River Kayak Rentals, and Huff Hills Ski Patrol, the Northern Plains Heritage Foundation lead a beginner group of kayakers down a stretch of the Missouri River, to build skills, knowledge, familiarity, and confidence among novice paddlers. The half-day trip launched at the Misty Waters Marina, north of Bismarck and continued approximately 4 miles south along a meandering side channel to Keelboat Park.

Longest Table Mural Unveiling

Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health, in collaboration with the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library, Dakota West Arts Council, Consensus Council, and Northern Plains Heritage Foundation, hosted a unique event to mark the unveiling of the multi-year Missouri River Heritage Mural. The art installation involved numerous partners and members of the public, and was painted by Greta McLain of GoodSpace Murals through a community-lead design sessions. Over 300 individuals helped to fill in the paint-by-numbers style mural on polytab cloth in 2022. The unveiling party took place nearly one year after the paint parties wrapped up. Installation was completed on the Grant Marsh Bridge, adjacent to the Heritage River Landing, where participants enjoyed a large-scale family-style meal together, heard from partners and community members about the significance of the mural, and enjoyed a River-inspired dance performance from Northern Plains Dance.
